Which Is Better Online Education Or On-Campus Education?

Written by admin

Education is the fundamental of success. It can be a powerful tool to reduce the rate of unemployment and poverty. Each country has its standards when it comes to education. But, one thing is for sure: each country offers both online and on-campus education.

People can learn using numerous senses. They can acquire it through social interaction with different people especially teachers and other students and the other one is through theoretical components. Students often times learn from one another based on their successes and mistakes and not just from what their teachers are telling them.

Online Education

With the help of the advanced technology, online education becomes a cheap and popular means of education outside a school campus. The teaching method used in online education can be through websites, CD’s and online real- time facilities like webinars, webcasts and virtual classrooms. These different methods in online education have both advantages and disadvantages.

For many people, the concept of online education is very new. Several problems regarding the concept of online education may arise. Those are:

  • Absence of urgent feedback from actual learning environments: Some online education facilities like webinars, webcasts and virtual classrooms conduct live teaching with instructor while others don’t have. Teaching through a website or CD provides no urgent feedback coming from live instructor.
  • The instructors for online education must have more preparations to be done: online education instructors should prepare all the lessons ahead of time. They can also prepare some notes that could guide them for the actual online teaching.
  • Many people are not comfortable about going for an online education: anyone can now have the chance to have proper education regardless of their age. That is why there is really a big need for designing some courses that could cater the educational needs of people with larger age bracket as well as for those students with different backgrounds. However, it is very difficult to develop an online education setting that is suitable for every student.
  • Expands potential for frustration, confusion and anxiety: system failure can arise in an online education setting. Server failures and computer viruses can prevent these online education settings to operate. If that is the case, many students would prefer to choose on–campus education rather than wasting their time and efforts just to master the usage of these online education programs.
  • The so-called “Digital Divide”: not all people can afford online education especially those who are settling down in remote areas. That is why people who can afford this are the once who has the enough resources and those who were born rich.

On-Campus Education

On-campus education is very personal. Each student can have immediate responds from their instructors and there are now instructors taking advantage of electronic instructional tools which still maintained the traditional classroom settings. Examples of these are power point presentation instead of using blackboard or whiteboard.

One good thing that separates on-campus education from online education is that with on-campus education each student can experience 100% social interactions with other students inside the campus. And students can also take courses that will best suit them. No matter what the differences between the two, the important thing is that they both help each student to develop and be more educated.
